February, also known as the worst month of the year, can be a dull and gloomy time. The cold weather may make you feel like hibernating until spring arrives. However, staying indoors presents an opportunity to be productive. I have come up with a solution called “Why Wait Until Spring” cleaning. Instead of postponing cleaning until spring when the weather is better, why not use February to complete the task? This way, when spring finally arrives, you can enjoy the outdoors without any lingering chores.
Refer to the following list of spring cleaning tasks that I have compiled for you. Please note that this is not a decluttering list, as we have already tackled that in January. Now that your space is decluttered, deep cleaning should be a breeze. If you haven’t decluttered yet and would like to, head over to my previous post for the 30-day decluttering challenge.
Additional Considerations
In addition to the cleaning tasks above, the tasks below are a good idea to couple with spring cleaning:
- Change the batteries in your smoke / carbon monoxide detectors
- Change the filter to your HVAC system
- Clean out your dryer vent
- Dust and clean out air vents/registers
Supply Suggestions
You can’t do a thorough spring cleaning without the right tools! Here are some product suggestions to help in your quest for cleanliness!
Who knew that we should be cleaning the appliances used for cleaning?? I used the washing machine tabs to clean out my machine a few days ago and the gunk that came out of it was disgusting. Take it from me, cleaning tabs for dishwasher, washing machine & garbage disposals are a must have for effective spring cleaning!
I don’t know what I’d do without my Shark Vacuum. The version I have is old now and no longer sold, but this is the closest I could find to the one I have. The important part is that it has the hose you can detach and use to clean your stairs, couch cushions and under your bed. It has powerful suction and is easy to operate and maintain.
If you want to fully clean out your dryer vent, you will need a Dryer vent cleaning tool. Cleaning out your vents periodically is a smart thing to do to reduce the chances of a dryer lint fire. This one is relatively inexpensive and can be hooked up to your vacuum to suck out all that nasty lint. It also comes with a long brush that can double as a tool to clean the coils of your refrigerator. Note that it is not compatible with Dyson vacuums.
This long arm duster can be used to reach dusty areas without having to pull out a step-stool. The long microfiber duster is great for the cobwebs that gather in the corners near the ceiling and for dusting off ceiling fans.
I have fun mopping the floors with my O’Cedar Spin Mop. I don’t have this fancy version that separates the dirty water from the clean water, but I wish I did. That would save a lot of water and trips emptying and refilling the bucket. The microfiber mop heads are conveniently machine washable.
Check out this awesome Blind Dusting Tool! I have a similar tool for cleaning blinds, but this one seems a lot better due to its low price and that the microfiber covers come off and can be washed! Are you seeing a pattern here?? Anyway, they are worth a shot because cleaning blinds with just a cloth is not it.
You’ve taken care of the spring cleaning inside the home during the dreary month of February and spring is around the corner. It’s the perfect time to get outdoors and focus on the exterior areas of your home. I will discuss outdoor spring cleaning tasks in detail in my next post. Stay tuned!
